Food Restriction Reveals Individual Differences in Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 Reaction Norms

چکیده
Most organisms have to cope with unpredictable environmental challenges such as fluctuations in nutritional resources. Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) is an evolutionarily conserved hormone that highly sensitive the individual status and regulates major life-history traits including lifespan reproduction across vertebrates. We investigated role of IGF-1 during periods food shortages by altering between two feeding regimes (110 70% daily intake) after a period ad libitum captive bearded reedlings ( Panurus biarmicus ). Each dietary treatment was repeated twice. Birds lost mass under restriction, but magnitude change depended on preceding conditions. Moreover, showed large, repeatable differences their reaction norms some individuals increasing levels response restricted diet, whereas others no responses or decreased levels. This variation explained average body mass: heavier had higher control were more likely decrease restriction than did lighter ones. result uncovers environment interaction (I × E) may important implications for evolution related hormonal phenotypes this species.

Experimental Food Restriction Reveals Individual Differences in Corticosterone Reaction Norms with No Oxidative Costs
Highly plastic endocrine traits are thought to play a central role in allowing organisms to respond rapidly to environmental change. Yet, not all individuals display the same degree of plasticity in these traits, and the costs of this individual variation in plasticity are unknown. We studied individual differences in corticosterone levels under varying conditions to test whether there are cons...
متن کاملAssociation between Insulin–Like Growth Factor I Polymorphism and Early Growth Traits in Iranian Zandi Sheep, Found Polymerase Chain Reaction Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP)
Early growth traits in sheep are economically important. Breeding for these traits has been shown to be problematic using quantitative genetic methods, particularly in native sheep herds. Molecular genetics is useful for sheep breeding. The gene for insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1) is one of the important candidate genes known for ovine early growth traits. The aim of this study was to inves...

Background & Objective: To find an association between gene variants of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) with the risk of acne vulgaris (AV). Methods: In a case-control study, we investigated 150 AV patients and 148 healthy individuals (aged 18-25 years) for the IGF-1 G>A and MTHFR C677T polymorphis...
متن کاملHepatic insulin-like growth-factor binding protein (igfbp) responses to food restriction in Atlantic salmon smolts.
The growth hormone (Gh)/insulin-like growth-factor (Igf) system plays a central role in the regulation of growth in fishes. However, the roles of Igf binding proteins (Igfbps) in coordinating responses to food availability are unresolved, especially in anadromous fishes preparing for seaward migration. We assayed plasma Gh, Igf1, thyroid hormones and cortisol along with igfbp mRNA levels in fas...
متن کاملOptimization and Construction of Human Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 Gene related to human health
Background and aims: Laron syndrome is a disease that treated by Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1). This protein is a single chain and has three disulfide bonds. People with Laron syndrome have low rates of cancer and diabetes, although they appear to be at increased risk of casual death due to their stature. IGF-1 is synthesized by many tissues and is secreted from liver as an endocrine hor...
